Tele documentry about Janamaithri Suraksha Project from
Irinjalakuda

In Irinjalakuda, personal interviews with community members, police personnel, and local dignitaries including the MLA of the area, Sri Thomas Unniyadan, revealed that the Janamaithri Suraksha project had attracted a lot of interest from the local citizenry. The attempt by the local police to reach out to and communicate with the residents of various residential localities was well received by community members. As a result of the interest shown by the police, groups of socially aware citizens were seen to be actively involved in assisting the police in some of their duties, especially the night patrolling function. About 40 NSS volunteers from a local college, viz. the Christ College, were formed into a squad of Traffic Wardens trained to assist the police in controlling and regulating traffic during the peak hours.

These wardens also assisted school and college students in boarding and alighting from crowded buses. Other college students were active in developing a community-wide Blood Bank directory, as a valuable community resource.

While carrying out their functions as part of the Janamaithri Suraksha project, some beat policemen have had heart-moving experiences to share, and their descriptions form part of the visual narrative. The programme was telecast on the Indiavision television channel on Sep 19, 2008, and a repeat telecast was shown on Sep 27, 2008. This particular tele-documentary was financially supported by Mr Sakeer, an NRK from Triprayar.
