Janamaithri Suraksha Project – Statewide Public Awareness Campaign
The Janamaithri Suraksha project is a statewide community policing initiative by the Kerala Police that seeks to develop a productive collaboration between the police and the community, specifically dealing with issues such as crime prevention and household security. The aim of this approach is to improve Public Safety for the citizens and enhance Law & Order within the community; at the same time developing mutually supportive relations between community members and the police force. The programme, the first of its kind anywhere in India, is being implemented within communities across the State, closely supervised by a high-level committee of senior Govt. officials, including Sri Jacob Punnoose IPS, Hon. Statewide Visual Documentation of Community Policing in Kerala -
Telefilms on the Janamaithri Suraksha project
OrgPEOPLE has been designated to develop appropriate state-wide awareness campaigns on the programme in order to increase public awareness regarding the Janamaithri Suraksha project. (vide: G.O (Rt) No. 1945/2007/Home dt 23.07.2007). In this connection, a series of tele-documentaries are being developed, highlighting the positive results achieved by the programme. These half-hour documentaries (in Malayalam, with English sub-titles) will be telecast on one of the better-known satellite television channels, with a view to increase programme visibility, thereby facilitating its early adoption in other parts of the state as well. Already, a pilot tele-documentary on the programme has been developed and broadcast, on 19th Sep 2008 on Indiavision channel, with a repeat telecast of the same scheduled for Saturday, Sep 27th, 2008 at 11:00 p.m. IST. The first telefilm of this series was based on project implementation in the town of Irinjalakuda in the District of Thrissur. The second in this series of visual documentaries has been developed around real-life community incidents in the Municipality of Perinthalmanna in Malappuram District |

Print Documentation of Community Policing in Kerala In commemoration of the successful first phase implementation of the Janamaithri Suraksha project by the Kerala Police, a special print publication is being brought out. The purpose of this publication is to create a supportive environment for the programme within communities not yet covered by the programme, and to disseminate the learning from the programme among a wider target audience, both within Kerala as well as outside Kerala. The commemorative publication will be despatched to all IAS and IPS officers throughout India, and other senior Government functionaries, as well as to all Embassies and Consulates located within India. Copies of the publication will also be distributed among elected people’s representatives such as Members of Parliament, MLAs, and members of local self-Government bodies such as District Panchayaths, Block Panchayaths, Municipalities and Grama Panchayaths, besides being made available in all public establishments across Kerala such as Public Libraries, Government offices, educational institutions, etc. |

www.communitypolicingkerala.org - the online platform for community policing in Kerala Today, the Internet has become an unimaginably cost-effective channel of communication, delivering information among innumerable users worldwide instantaneously. In order to support the statewide community policing programme of Kerala Police, an attractively designed, user-friendly and interactive website is being developed, with up-to-date information on programme implementation, community feedback, and forums for discussion, where community members may interact directly with programme officers. The website has been envisaged as a State-level online communications channel to support, promote and propagate the aims of the Janamaithri Suraksha project, so as to assist the implementation of community policing practices throughout the State of Kerala, with the assistance of the respective officials responsible for each District. |
